Product Details

1. Product Overview

The FX1S-14MT-001 is a micro PLC in Mitsubishi Electric's MELSEC-F FX1S series, integrating power supply, CPU, 8 digital inputs and 6 transistor outputs into one housing. At 60 mm wide, it supports DIN-rail or screw mounting and is an ideal control core for space- and cost-sensitive small equipment.

This unit uses transistor outputs (MT), switching only DC loads (5–30V DC) but offering high-speed pulse output: Y0 and Y1 can each output up to 100kHz pulses simultaneously. Together with on-board positioning instructions (ZRN home return, PLSY/PLSR pulse output, DRVI/DRVA relative/absolute positioning), it directly drives stepper or servo amplifiers for simple single-axis positioning. Y2–Y5 are general transistor outputs for DC solenoid valves, relays and indicator lights.

The unit features built-in 2000-step EEPROM program memory (no battery), an on-board real-time clock and hour meter, and a built-in 24V DC / 400mA sensor supply.

Per Mitsubishi FX1S hardware manual JY992D83901. Transistor outputs are DC-only and cannot directly switch AC contactors; for high-speed pulse output, keep load current in the 10–100mA range for clean waveforms. The FX1S is an earlier-generation model; new designs are recommended to use its successor FX3S-14MT/ES.

5. Model Information

  • Model (ordering number): FX1S-14MT-001
  • Product description: Mitsubishi Electric MELSEC-F FX1S micro PLC, 14 I/O (8 in / 6 transistor out), 100–240V AC supply, Japanese domestic spec, with high-speed pulse positioning.
  • Official catalog description: FX1S is the fit-and-forget PLC solution for space and cost conscious applications requiring up to 30 I/O; transistor output units provide up to 100kHz pulse output for simple positioning.
  • Material number note: FX1S-14MT-001 is the official Mitsubishi Electric ordering model (Japanese domestic spec). The equivalent international CE/UL version is FX1S-14MT-ESS/UL (source/PNP output). The "-001" suffix denotes Japanese domestic production with fixed sink input and fixed sink (NPN) output. If you have questions about the successor FX3S-14MT/ES compatibility or pulse wiring, please contact us by email.

7. FAQ

Q1: How many I/O points does the FX1S-14MT-001 have? What is the output type?

A: 14 points total: 8 digital inputs (X0–X7, 24V DC) and 6 transistor outputs (Y0–Y5). MT denotes transistor output, which switches DC loads only (5–30V DC) and cannot directly drive AC contactors.

Q2: Can this PLC do positioning control?

A: Yes. Y0 and Y1 each output up to 100kHz pulses simultaneously. With on-board instructions ZRN, PLSY/PLSR and DRVI/DRVA, it directly drives stepper or servo amplifiers for simple single-axis positioning. Y2–Y5 are general transistor outputs for ordinary DC load switching.

Q3: What does sink (NPN) output mean? How does it differ from source (PNP)?

A: Sink output (NPN) means that when ON, current flows from the external load into the PLC common (the output switches internally to 0V). FX1S-14MT-001 is the Japanese domestic model with fixed sink output; the international ESS/UL version is source (PNP). Wiring must match the pulse input type of the drive.

Q4: How do I choose between transistor and relay output?

A: Transistor output is fast, long-lived and supports high-speed pulses for DC loads and high-frequency switching. Relay output switches both AC and DC at higher current (2A/point) but is slow and has no high-speed pulse capability. Choose MT for high-speed positioning, MR for general switching.

Q5: Does this PLC need a backup battery?

A: No. The FX1S stores the user program in built-in EEPROM; there is no battery and the program is retained on power-off.

Q6: Is this PLC still in production? Is there a successor?

A: The FX1S series is an earlier-generation Mitsubishi micro PLC. Mitsubishi's official replacement guide recommends FX3S-14MT/ES (same 8 in / 6 transistor out, 100–240V AC, 16K-step program memory) for new designs. Migration requires program porting and pulse wiring review; please email us for a migration plan.
